An Outsider Girl’s Perspective

About Shannon Deverell

My name is Shannon Deverell and I love being outside in nature. I created the Outsider Girl website to share information and resources on how to enjoy nature through hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing and many other fun and healthy outdoor activities. This website grew out of my love for being in nature and my journey to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award by writing a children's book.

I titled my book Plugging into Nature as a reminder that you don't always have to be plugged into an electronic to have fun and create experiences; you can plug into what the earth has always offered, nature. It took me over a year to complete the book and along the way, I learned a lot that I want to share with you.

I am a student at Westview High School where I play on the girls tennis team and am very active in my Navy JROTC unit including captaining the marksmanship team. With my family and through Girl Scouts, I have participated in many high adventure outdoor activities and backpacking trips. This summer I am very excited to go deep in the wilderness on a 70 mile Sierra Nevada high peaks backpacking trek. This trip will include summiting Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48.
